I loved lockdown, there was little traffic, the sounds of the birds were beautiful, and the air seemed to be cleaner. I’ve always loved landscapes and the great outdoors and during the lockdown, the environment seemed (in my mind) to go back to how it was always supposed to be. For me, there is a real difficulty juggling modern life with towns and cities. They are forever encroaching on our beautiful landscapes, powerlines are everywhere, and you can’t see a beautiful landscape without a wind farm popping up in it. Most of my landscapes leave out all the blite we have inflicted on our landscapes. However, My latest piece “City Dystopia” embraces it and expresses my thoughts and feelings about the Juxtaposition I (we) stand in between our cities and our landscapes.

Poppies in a field to commerate our veterans. It is important to remember the past but also to look to the future. LucyD wanted to show a field full of colour and direction, intentionally leaving the horizon just out of sight, , to remind us that there is always new horizon to look forward to.

Seahouses is such a busy place usually, but when I saw the load man sat on his own with no-one around, I just knew I had topping it. I was just like this, with space under the umbrella for someone. Who I did not know, but it did get me wondering. I wanted to portray the vast expanse of the sea and sand, and the loneliness and isolation. I also wanted to keep things simple to let people wonder whats happening in the scene. Flowing people to relate and translate the painting to their own lives
